In March 1983 Tillie was charged for the murder of her third husband, Frank. As the list grew it was suspected she had poisoned up to twenty people, fourteen of which were dead. It was also found out that several of Tillie’s relatives because gravely ill after eating at her house. Her cousin Nellie was also arrested after Tillie claimed that Nellie had given her the rat poison, after Tillie stated “I will get rid of Frank somehow.”Īfter her arrest claims came forward that two woman Tillie had fought with had died after eating candy Tillie had given them and a dog that lived on the same street had died of arsenic poisoning. The bodies of her previous husbands where exhumed and were found to contain lethal doses of arsenic. Tillie was arrested, upon arrest she told the police officer “The next dinner I cook will be for you.” The doctors suspected arsenic poison, and tests confirmed. They were living together when Joseph fell ill. In 1921 after Frank’s death, Tillie remarried to Joseph Klimek. At one point Tillie also asked her landlord if she could keep a “bargain bought” coffin in the basement. She even knitted her own mourning hat whilst she sat next to Frank, she wore it to court. She began to tell neighbours that “Frank would not live long”, and mocking Frank each morning by greeting him with various death reminders, “Good morning, not long now!”. Frank began to fall ill at the apartment they shared. He too died after a short period, as did another of Tillie’s boyfriends.įrank Kupczyk was Tillie’s third husband.
Tillie quickly remarried a man who lived nearby, Joseph Ruskowski. The death certificate said heart problems. John Mitkiewicz, in 1895, in 1914 he died after a short illness.
